My much loved 2002 PT Limited starting to burn some oil after 212,000 kms.. We are approaching crunch time to do overhaul or sell. Does anyone know a Canberra mechanic that works on cruisers and any advice about the best way to go. If I do the engine, are there other things I should expect to replace?

Thanks

Sorry I have no contacts from ACT.
Probably be cheaper to let it burn oil than rebuild.
There are some contacts that NSW people use but out of your area though, so have a look through our website on the repairers we have available - www.ptcruisers.org.au

Hi JK

They all use lots of oil, however if you're getting blue smoke from the exhaust, then yes, like in any car, you have a developing problem.

We had ours rebuilt at 300,000km.
Took a holiday and went to the Gold Coast and left the car with Allan at Bleam
(www.bleam.com.au)
More then happy with the result.
Roughly $4.5K including the holiday!

Hope that this helps,

Cheers,

Steve

I should also quantify my earlier comments-
up to 1 litre of oil per 5,000km is almost normal for a 2lt PT.

Once you get over this consumption level, then you have a developing problem.
