1) Sounds to me like the ignition switch is stuffed.
What a frustrating car !!

2) It\'s not just PT\'s- EVERY modern car is ruled by sensors and computers that can change from one month to the next (not just year to year). Even the \"ever reliable, ever simple Toyota\"- believe me, just spent a fortune and a lot of work time lost trying to find a problem in one.

Did you change the \'main computer\" and wiring harnesses from the old to new? There is so much info that the main control unit needs, and as mentioned above it can change from day to day with manufacture. Remember, it\'s an American car, and they (supposedly) try to keep improving consumption figures, and in particular emission figures regularly (government regulations change on a regular basis). This means new sensors and new control units on a very regular basis.

Summary, if you haven\'t swapped the wiring loom and all the \'add ons\', or the main computer, try that first.

Doing a bit of info gathering as I may need it ;)

You\'ve replaced a 2001 1T engine with a 2003 3T
As Steve said you will need to use all wiring and computer
Crank sensor is located 180 degrees in difference on replacement motor
So timing maybe way out
Check both engines to confirm different locations

Sorry Col only found this out today as I have a similar problem as your original PT

Yes I thinking the ignition switch is stuffed , will pull the one out of the parts car.
Colin
I have not changed the computer as it is totally different in all aspects... if the Crank signal is 180 out wouldnt that bring up an error code

P 1390(M) Timing Belt Skipped 1 Tooth or More Relationship between Cam and Crank signals not correct.:(

Running out of ideas now... changed the ignition switch, module & barrel & still no go. have a bluetooth OBDii reader that works on my mobile & when I wind it over the tacho on it reads 300 rpm ...
Pulled all the dash apart on the parts PT & will swap it over when I finally get the PT running.. Swapped the window switch frm the Silver PT & now the drivers window Auto down works.. :)

One of the mechanics asked if both have the same transmission
Auto PCM is different to Manual PCM
Also they said it deffinately is timing with what you said it did after using the spray
Maybe change the leads around to opposite may confuse the computer
