Hi All,

Mudgy here from the Central Coast of NSW.
New member.
One day I'd like to get the Mrs. a PT Cruiser, although I know little about them.

Were they based on the Chrysler Neon platform?
What's the last year produced?
Anything to look for when buying a (obviously) second hand one?
Manual is fine

I've seen a lot of aftermarket stuff out there over the years for them
Is the timing belt job a bitch, or easy enough to do at home?

Here's my project.... kinda where these things all came from...

a 1937 Dodge D5 sedan. '83 Jag suspension, boxed chassis, modified Cross member, '91 Holden Calais heart & lungs & brain.

I hope to have it rolling soon.

Cheers, Mudgy

Just a quick hi and welcome to this forum.
If you don't mind I won't answer your questions tonight as there is a bit there.
I've been on the road a bit today coming from Orange to the South Coast with some visitations in between, but just wanted to say a hi tonight so you know your message was read.
Love your project going there......on the road soon! I think you've got a bit to do yet.

Back again
Ok to answer your questions
Neon platform - not sure directly on that. Some might say yes and some might say I hope not! But some of the mechanicals were interchangeable or similar to the neon. Body wise and much of the electronics not.
Last production - 2010
Anything to look for when buying a second hand one - obviously a good one....lol.
But I'd say you have some knowledge so when buying not only do you look at the normal and obvious things but also ask a lot of questions about that car you are looking at.
Remembering you are buying a second hand car and sadly a lot of people aren't real honest but I'm sure you'd be able to detect that.
So, if your going back 10-15 years....more than likely you'll be doing some form of renovating.
Today If you want a day car...get a Mazda etc
If you want an enthusiasts car then go for it.

My view any way.

And first answer, not Neon Platform. Neon was PL, PT is PT.
