With great sadness I have to inform that my car battery had to be replaced last week :(
After 13 years I had to make the big decision and relace it.
Not bad though being the original battery for a 2003 model.
It still hadn't completely failed. For about 6 months now it has at times just sounded not right at times and there was one day last week it refused to start. After jumping it, for the next week it was still starting ok so I thought better to be safe than sorry inconsideration to its date.

The standard Battery is a 510 CCA (Cold Crank Amp).
The Century 58 Battery that suits the Holden V8 fits and is 530 CCA (2 year warranty) = $155 approx.
I purchased the Century 68 Battery with a 620 CCA (3 year Warranty) = $170 more for the Cold Cranking out at Orange where I visit daughter regularly.

So what have we done after 13 years/140,000km in order -
Serviced by the Service intervals
Spark Plug Leads
Set of Tyres
Power Steering Pressure Switch
Gear Select Bushes (twice)
Coolant Fan Motor
1 Brake Light Globe
Battery

I guess I can't complain about that!

Not bad, considering that people tell you that PT Cruisers are unreliable and expensive to fix .

Whilst talking about repairs , this afternoon I called Avi and Josh at A&J Repairs , our friendly PT Specialist at Blacktown .
It was around 2.00pm and the call was unanswered, as they had obviously closed for the day .
I had no issues , but just wanted to inquire about getting some non urgent work done in the next few weeks .
Surprise , surprise , around 3.30, Avi called to see if I had any urgent issues which he could help with , as the office phone diverts to his mobile after hours .
Great service ,which I thanked him for , and just one of the reasons why Mellow Yellow doesn`t go anywhere else .
Customer Service at its best .

Glad you were happy with them. I'm yet to use them. Unfortunately a little distance away.

Dennis in relation to what you said about people saying they are expensive to fix, I guess they are really when it comes to major works on the engine.
I've been fortunate that the items that have failed have been minimal and certainly servicing regularly and treating the car without giving it a hard time does make a difference to minimising costs.
But I'm sure every car is different though......maybe I've just been lucky with this one!
I'm happy.

Prior to me replacing the car battery, for approx. 6 months I would notice that my Odometer Tripmeter would be reset by itself when normally I would do this every time I refuelled. I kinda worked out that this was happening when I restarted the car. It wouldn't do it if I had the trip meter set on though!
Now I've noticed since the battery has been replaced that this isn't happening any more!
I understand why it was doing this now but was just wondering if anyone else experienced this prior to their battery failing......is it a tell tale sign that the battery is failing!

It happens mostly when the battery is low on charge, not necessarily just when it's failing,
and usually when you have the driver's door open (thus, interior lights on, increasing the drain) at the same time as you start it.

We've lived with it on and off for years.
